Zelgadis is, on the surface, a cold and collected person who stoically shows little in the way of emotion. He speaks very little, preferring to observe silently with his arms crossed while others talk, waiting for the best moment to interject a comment. He is soft-spoken, and seems to be just about as passionate as the rocks that comprise his skin, remaining level-headed even in life or death situations. It is a rare event to see him showing true anger or passion, and to some this comes off as a fairly aloof attitude.
Much of this surface personality is true and core to his internal character. Zelgadis is a calculating perfectionist with a deeply practical attitude towards most things. He moves and thinks with economy and uses only the exact amount of power, thought or effort that he believes is necessary to accomplish a task. Waste is not a word that enters his vocabulary, and he thinks poorly of foolish activities or wastes of his time.
Ethically, he is neither especially moral, nor is he amoral, the practicality of his nature bleeding through into most things. As such, he is capable of showing sympathy for those less fortunate than himself and oftentimes finds himself protecting the weak against danger, but always with a certain understanding that it is simply the best thing to do at the time. It is better, for instance, if laws are obeyed while they are convenient and if people are protected when they are in danger, because the end results are better, not because he is naturally altruistic. He does, however, have a vehement hatred for slavery and the abuse of magical power, centered in his loathing for his great-grandfather Rezo.
He is a man who values knowledge, perfection and the careful application of power. Because of this, he strives to perfect body, mind and magic constantly and shows little interest in leisurely pursuits that are not, somehow, ways to improve himself. It causes others that are close to him to view him as stuffy and uptight, which is probably a fair assessment.
Zelgadis is very self-reliant and has little trouble taking care of himself. In fact, he shows a marked preference to working alone, when he believes that he can, and travels and lives by himself most of the time. He is awkward in social situations, not comfortable chatting with those he doesn't know well. Whenever possible, he covers his inhuman features. He has a deeply-rooted body image problem because of his monstrous appearance, making intentional romance rare and awkward, both out of concern for other's health and because he feels constantly judged by others for his looks. He does not make friends easily, having been burned badly by those that he trusted in his early years, and warms up only after seeing the proof of another's character. For the few who break past these barriers, he is intensely loyal and will risk anything to help them.

Protecting Others – While deeply pragmatic, Zelgadis has a natural protective streak. Putting himself at some personal risk does not come naturally, but it's happened plenty of times and can serve to force him to meet new people.
Oral Fixation – Zelgadis has enough body-consciousness issues that an oral fixation is almost certain to come into play. It is one of the easiest ways for him to perform sexually, and as such is a good vehicle to corrupting him towards greater vice.

Sample Game Mechanic: Using both the objectives system and, in tandem, the ruin raids will be a very easy method to get Zelgadis out there. It is a natural default for him to explore ruins, looking for the means to oppose his enemies, and a particularly good way for him to build new CR.
